The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has appointed Col Boaz Kashaya as the new Coordinator of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), replacing Col Victor Busobozi.
Kashaya assumed the position during a handover ceremony held at the UPDF Land Force Headquarters in Bombo.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Staff, Land Forces, Maj Gen Chris Bagonza, who commended Col Busobozi for his resilience, teamwork and commitment during his tenure.
Bagonza said Busobozi’s efforts had contributed to the effective coordination of UPDF troops deployed on foreign missions.
He urged Col Kashaya to work closely with staff, seek guidance whenever necessary and maintain close coordination with the Land Forces leadership as he takes up the new assignment.
Col Busobozi, in turn, urged his successor to strengthen coordination with relevant government institutions and other stakeholders to ensure the effective execution of the coordinator’s responsibilities.
Kashaya thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the assignment and pledged to execute his duties to the best of his ability.
He also asked Col Busobozi to remain available for consultation and guidance during the transition and throughout his tenure.
The handover was attended by Brig Gen Kasauli, the Director of Anti-Aircraft and Commander Land Forces, alongside directors at Land Forces Headquarters and other senior and junior UPDF officers.
The appointment comes as AUSSOM continues the African Union’s security and stabilisation efforts in Somalia, where regional forces are supporting the Somali government in countering security threats and strengthening national institutions.
