KAMPALA — Pearl Bank has marked one year since rebranding from PostBank Uganda, describing the transition as more than a corporate name change but a strategic transformation aimed at positioning the institution as a trusted partner in Uganda’s economic development.

Speaking about the milestone, the bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Priscilla Akora, said the rebrand reflects the bank’s renewed purpose of “Fostering Prosperity for Ugandans” while embracing a modern, digitally driven and inclusive banking model.

“The Pearl Bank rebrand journey is more than a name change. It was a carefully thought-through strategy that continues to reflect the bank’s broader vision and purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans,” Akora said.

She explained that shareholders approved the name change in June last year as part of a broader strategy to align the institution’s identity with its long-term vision.

The rebranding introduced a new name, logo, colours and messaging while maintaining the bank’s commitment to serving Ugandans.

“The new identity reflects the bank’s transformation into a digitally progressive, inclusive and nationally grounded financial institution. It also signifies our readiness to embrace the future with confidence while ensuring long-term growth, relevance and impact,” she said.

Akora said the choice of the name Pearl Bank was inspired by Uganda’s identity as the “Pearl of Africa,” symbolising the country’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and economic potential.

“By adopting the name Pearl Bank, we honour this legacy and evoke a deep sense of national pride. Pearls symbolise purity, wisdom, prosperity and trust, values that align with our purpose as a Ugandan-owned bank,” she said.

She added that the new identity reinforces the bank’s commitment to stability, reliability and supporting Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

Financial Inclusion at the Centre

According to Akora, Pearl Bank’s strategy is anchored on two key objectives: expanding financial inclusion and stimulating entrepreneurship.

The bank aims to provide affordable and secure financial services to Ugandans regardless of their location while supporting businesses to create employment and drive economic activity.

She cited the bank’s lending products for agriculture, school fees and small businesses, alongside digital platforms such as the Pearl Bank App, Wendi Mobile Wallet, mobile banking and USSD services, as key tools for expanding access to financial services.

Akora illustrated the strategy using the example of a maize farmer in Rakai accessing agricultural value chain financing to obtain farm inputs on credit, sell produce to contracted buyers, receive payments through a Pearl Bank account, pay school fees using the Pearl Bank App and save income through the Wendi Wallet for the next planting season.

“This single chain drives both financial inclusion and entrepreneurship,” she said.

Network Expansion

As part of the transition, Pearl Bank expanded its physical footprint by opening a new branch in Luwero in November last year, which served as the pilot branch for the rebranding exercise.

The addition brought the bank’s network to 59 branches, including its new head office on Roscoe Road in Kololo, while its City Branch continues operating on Nkrumah Road.

The bank also operates 59 automated teller machines (ATMs), more than 13,000 Wendi banking agents and 14 mobile banking vans, complemented by online and mobile banking services.

Transition Nearing Completion

Akora said while stakeholder engagement remains an ongoing process, the bank has substantially completed the corporate identity transition.

“In terms of the corporate identity, the look and feel is now fully aligned to the new visual identity across our branches, head office, website, Pearl Bank App and ATM network,” she said.

She noted that a few co-branded materials with external partners are still being updated but most customer touchpoints now reflect the Pearl Bank brand.

Customers Urged to Replace PostBank Cards

Pearl Bank is also encouraging customers to replace their PostBank-branded ATM cards and cheque books as part of the final phase of the transition.

Customers have until December 2026 to replace cheque books and January 2027 to obtain new Pearl Bank ATM cards by visiting any branch with a national identification document.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on the past year, Akora thanked customers, employees, partners, management and the board for supporting the transition.

“The rebrand has been a profound milestone in Pearl Bank’s journey, and we thank our customers who have embraced the new identity with positivity. We have received a lot of positive feedback that the new name reflects who Uganda is—the Pearl of Africa,” she said.

She added that the bank would continue aligning its products and services with its purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans. “When you grow, Uganda prospers,” she said.
