Kasolo congratulated Ambassador Lee on his appointment and expressed Uganda’s commitment to further deepening the cordial bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said Uganda remains interested in expanding diplomatic engagement with South Korea, particularly in political cooperation, economic development and socio-cultural exchange.

Ambassador Lee thanked the Ugandan government for the warm reception and expressed readiness to strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two countries during his tenure.

He identified agriculture, trade, investment and education as key areas where South Korea and Uganda can expand cooperation.

During the meeting, Kasolo emphasised the importance of strengthening collaboration in digital innovation and technology, saying such partnerships could create new opportunities for Uganda’s youthful population.

He also encouraged increased Korean investment in agro-processing and value addition, particularly in rural communities, while calling for greater access for Ugandan products such as coffee and fresh produce to the Korean market.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing mutually beneficial partnerships aimed at promoting economic growth and stronger people-to-people relations between Uganda and South Korea.

In a separate engagement, Minister Kasolo received the newly appointed World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director to Uganda, Ms Baimankay Sankoh, who presented her Letters of Credence.

Kasolo welcomed Sankoh and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to working closely with WFP to advance food security, resilience building and sustainable development.

The minister noted that Uganda’s prevailing peace and stability under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni have continued to provide a favourable environment for agricultural production and efforts aimed at strengthening regional food security.

Sankoh pledged WFP’s continued partnership with the Government of Uganda, highlighting priority areas including increased local food procurement, support for smallholder farmers, expansion of school feeding programmes and initiatives aimed at improving community resilience.

She noted that Uganda’s ability to produce food throughout the year positions the country as a reliable food supplier and an important contributor to regional food security.

The two sides expressed commitment to expanding cooperation to support vulnerable communities, improve livelihoods and strengthen Uganda’s capacity to respond to food and nutrition challenges.

The engagements with the Korean envoy and WFP leadership come as Uganda continues to pursue stronger international partnerships to support economic transformation, agricultural development, technology transfer and sustainable development goals.
