Uganda’s Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai continued her sensational 2026 season with another commanding victory, winning the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Xiamen Diamond League in a new meet record time of 8:51.06.

Chemutai delivered a powerful finish to edge reigning world champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain, who crossed second in 8:51.54, while Kenya’s Faith Cherotich finished third in 8:52.53 in one of the fastest women’s steeplechase races of the season.

The latest triumph comes just days after Chemutai produced another world-class performance at the Shanghai Diamond League on May 16, where she stormed to victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a world-leading time and meeting record, narrowly beating Cherotich by just 0.01 seconds in a dramatic finish.

Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani also impressed in Shanghai after setting a new national record of 8:58.09.

Chemutai’s back-to-back Diamond League victories have further cemented her status as one of the world’s leading steeplechase athletes and signaled a strong return to top form ahead of the major global championships later this season.

Ugandan athletics fans have continued to celebrate the athlete’s remarkable resurgence, with many hailing her as “the queen” of the women’s steeplechase following her dominant displays on the international stage.
