UDB Appoints Peter Mukuru Director of Business Technology

KAMPALA — Uganda Development Bank (UDB), the country’s national Development Finance Institution (DFI), has appointed Peter Mukuru as its new Director, Business Technology.

Mukuru joins UDB with over 20 years of executive leadership experience in business technology and digital transformation across development finance, regulation, government, utilities and the private sector.

Prior to his appointment, he served as IT Project Manager at the African Development Bank (AfDB), where he led large-scale, multi-national digital transformation initiatives at both enterprise and continental levels. His work focused on modernising financial systems, strengthening digital workplaces, enhancing enterprise service management, and driving adoption of emerging technologies to improve efficiency, resilience and service delivery.

Before AfDB, Mukuru held senior leadership roles at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), and TraceCorp Solutions. In these roles, he delivered enterprise-wide technology programmes spanning ERP modernisation, data and analytics, cybersecurity, digital payments, and business continuity frameworks.

Beyond executive management, Mukuru brings strong corporate governance experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director in FinTech, health services and professional governance institutions. He offers expertise in digital technology governance, risk optimisation, enterprise architecture and cybersecurity, with a consistent focus on aligning technology investments to institutional strategy and long-term sustainability.

He is also active in community leadership through Rotary International, where he has held several District and Club leadership roles in Uganda.

Academically, Mukuru holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Information Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Statistics. He is professionally certified in Information Security (CISM), Risk Management (CRISC), Project Management (PMP), Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF), and Service Management (ITIL v4), complemented by additional training in AI strategy and governance, digital economy, digital payment systems and innovation management.

His appointment comes at a time when UDB continues to strengthen its digital capabilities to enhance development financing and operational excellence.
