President Yoweri Museveni has said the government will support the redevelopment of the historic Muchwa Building in Fort Portal into a multi-purpose legacy centre, following talks with leaders of the Tooro Kingdom.
Museveni met the kingdom’s Prime Minister, Omuhikirwa Calvin Armstrong Rwomire, his deputy and ministers responsible for youth and tourism at his Rwakitura residence, according to a statement posted by the president.
The redevelopment project aims to preserve Tooro’s cultural heritage while promoting tourism, supporting youth engagement and ensuring economic sustainability, Museveni said.
The Muchwa Building is a historic landmark in Fort Portal, a major cultural and tourism hub in western Uganda.
The initiative reflects broader cooperation between the central government and traditional institutions on cultural preservation and local development.
