The 2025 edition convened over 30 African governments and numerous industry leaders to advance dialogue on digital governance, e-government transformation, and innovation in public service delivery.

The Digital Government Africa Summit is the continent’s premier ministerial platform dedicated to advancing public-sector digital transformation. It provides space for policymakers, innovators, and private-sector leaders to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and align national initiatives with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).

Across the continent, governments are making significant investments in digital and e- Government services to enhance delivery, transparency, and efficiency.

Emerging trends continue to redefine Africa’s digital landscape, including the expansion of digital identity systems, e-Government platforms, smart public services, cybersecurity and data protection frameworks, e-payments, and cashless service delivery models.

These transformative shifts are increasingly being driven by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in public systems.

Uganda’s delegation at the summit  included, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Gen David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Dr Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, NITA-U, Maj Gen Apollo Kasiita-Gowa, Chief of Immigration; Rosemary Kisembo, Executive Director, National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA); and other senior government officials.

“We are honoured to have Uganda chosen as the next host of the Digital Government Africa Summit. This recognition affirms the progress our country has made in leveraging ICTs to transform public service delivery and improve the lives of our citizens,” said Dr Baryomunsi. “The Summit will provide a strategic opportunity to showcase Uganda’s achievements, share best practices, and strengthen continental collaboration in building a digitally empowered Africa.”

Dr Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director, NITA-U, said digital transformation is no longer a choice but an imperative, “Hosting DGA 2026 positions Uganda at the center of Africa’s digital discourse, allowing us to demonstrate how infrastructure, interoperability, and innovation are powering inclusive growth.”

The Digital Government Africa Secretariat noted, “Uganda’s commitment to digital excellence and its track record in implementing scalable, citizen-centric ICT solutions made it a natural choice for the 2026 host. We are excited to partner with MoICT and NITA-U to make next year’s Summit the most impactful yet.”
