Equity Bank Uganda’s sportsmanship and teamwork shone brightly over the weekend as the bank’s volleyball team clinched Silver medals at the Annual Bankers Sports Gala, cementing its place among the top-performing institutions in Uganda’s banking sector.
Held at the Kyambogo University Sports Grounds, the 2025 Bankers Gala brought together teams from commercial banks, microfinance institutions, and financial sector agencies for a weekend of competition, camaraderie, and corporate wellness.
Equity Bank’s contingent, known for its spirited “We Are Equity” energy, participated in a range of outdoor games — including netball, darts, badminton, and table tennis — but it was the volleyball team that stole the show with a stunning performance that saw them finish second overall.
“Our volleyball team played with heart, discipline, and determination,” the bank said in a statement posted on its official X (Twitter) account. “Their outstanding performance and Silver finish reflect the teamwork, energy, and passion that define Team Equity.”
The Silver Award marks another milestone in Equity Bank Uganda’s growing reputation for excellence both on and off the pitch. The team’s success builds on the bank’s strong tradition of promoting employee wellness, unity, and leadership through sport.
Executive Swings
Last month saw Equity’s executive leaders—Managing Director Gift Shoko and Executive Director Claver Serumaga—take part in the CEO Golf Tournament, where the bank’s “Swing Masters” team sought to defend their title as the reigning champions.
“Team Equity continues to embody the spirit of collaboration and high performance, whether in banking halls or on the sports field,” said a bank representative. “These activities strengthen our corporate culture and keep our people motivated to deliver exceptional results for our customers.”
The Bankers’ Sports Gala is an annual event organised under the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and networking across the financial sector.
The 2025 edition attracted dozens of institutions and hundreds of participants from across the country, celebrating talent, unity, and healthy competition.
