The Baseline Education Census is being conducted in Karamoja, Kigezi, Rwenzori, Tooro and West Nile Sub-regions. These sub-regions had not been covered since the exercise commenced in April 2025.

Last week, UBOS Principal Public Relations Officer, Didacus Okoth, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Moroto District, Mark Aol Musooka, ahead of the exercise. Speaking at a media briefing at the Moroto District Local Government headquarters, Okoth emphasised the importance of preparing learners for the census.

“Teachers and parents are urged to ensure that learners are present in school during the exercise, as only those physically present will be enumerated,” Okoth said.

He added that the census will collect vital information on teachers, non-teaching staff, school infrastructure such as classrooms and sanitation facilities, as well as available learning materials, including textbooks.

The Deputy RDC, Musooka, called on all schools in Moroto and across Karamoja to fully cooperate with field data collectors. “Your cooperation is critical to ensure a successful exercise,” he said.

As part of the ongoing publicity campaign, UBOS Senior PRO, Lawrence Kimbowa, also visited the Assistant RDC, Peter Abrahams Lokwii, in Kotido District, where he shared information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to raise awareness about the upcoming census.

Kimbowa later joined Mr Lokwii and Joseph Orisa, Kotido District Communications Officer, on Etuko FM to engage the public and provide further insights into the data collection process.

The Baseline Education Census 2025 aims to strengthen Uganda’s education planning by providing accurate data on schools, staff, and learning resources across the country.
