Hoima City Stadium Nears Completion as Uganda Prepares for 2027 AFCON

Hoima — Plans to hand over the Hoima City Stadium to the Government of Uganda are accelerating, with officials confirming the multi-sports facility is now over 92% complete. The announcement follows the successful installation of the running track, the last major feature of the stadium’s playing surface.

The state-of-the-art stadium, currently under construction in Hoima City, Western Uganda, is one of Uganda’s flagship projects ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

According to updates shared by the National Council of Sports (NCS) and the stadium’s official social media platforms, key milestones continue to be achieved ahead of schedule. These include the roofing of the indoor arena and the installation of advanced night lighting systems, giving the venue a modern, world-class look.

“Hoima City Stadium is a thing of beauty,” the NCS noted in a statement, praising the quality and speed of construction.

The project is being executed by Turkish construction firm SUMMA, which had initially projected a December 2025 handover but has hinted at the possibility of completing the facility even earlier.

Sports analysts and commentators across Africa have also taken note, with Africa View Facts describing it as “one of the fastest-built stadiums in Africa, on course to be completed in record time and ready to host major international events.”

Once complete, Hoima City Stadium will be a central venue for the AFCON 2027 tournament and is expected to spur economic activity, boost sports tourism, and provide a lasting legacy for sports development in the Bunyoro sub-region and beyond.

The government has yet to announce the official handover date, but with construction at 92% completion, excitement is mounting among sports fans and local communities eager to see Uganda host continental football at the highest level.
