Richard Byarugaba Appointed Board Chair of Old Mutual Investment Group

Former NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba has been named the new Board Chairman of Old Mutual Investment Group, succeeding Professor Samuel Sejjaaka. Joining him on the board is Charles Ernest Hamya.

Bringing over three decades of experience in financial services and visionary leadership across East Africa, Byarugaba recently completed his term as Board Chair of the Uganda Securities Exchange.

During his decade-long leadership at NSSF, he spearheaded impressive growth in assets—from USD 600 million to USD 4.7 billion, while championing digital transformation, operational reforms, and the passage of the Amendment Bill that expanded pension coverage to more than 10 million Ugandans.

A Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), a Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) in Uganda, and a Level III CFA candidate, he holds an MBA and a BSc in Statistics and Economics.

Old Mutual commended Richard Byarugaba’s financial acumen and dedication to robust investment governance and risk management .

The company also paid tribute to outgoing chairman Prof. Sejjaaka for his visionary leadership, particularly acknowledging his role in launching Uganda’s first Dollar Unit Trust Collective Investment Scheme — a landmark in the country’s investment landscape.
