Democratic Party (DP) President, Norbert Mao has called upon Parliament to investigate criminal gangs within police as well what he called “godfathers” to these elements.

While addressing the media at City House on Tuesday, Mao said that the police is faced with the problem of god-fatherism and criminal gangs that must be investigated and dealt with.

“I heard Mr. Kirumira talking and I asked myself, how can a middle ranking officer talk like that. So defiant which means he has someone behind him. I also used to hear Kitatta talking very defiantly daring DPCs to have them transferred,” Mao noted.

Mao observed that the criminal gangs are set up to solve political problems noting however that it is normal to breed a dog but it later terrorize your home.

According to the DP boss, the gangs might have turned riotous against their ‘godfathers’ and ended up involving in more dangerous activities.

Mao asked that a select committee of Parliament be set up to extensively investigate the criminal gangs embedded within Police as well as exposing the godfathers under whose wings the criminal gangs operate.

“Criminals are like cockroaches, they thrive in the dark and the only answer is to switch on the light and they will scatter. All that is needed in Uganda is to turn on the light and see how these criminals will run, they are already scattering because of the little light that the media has lit.”

Mao warned that Ugandans should not just look on and expect the army to clean up the Police but rather to deal with the problems within the Police through their representatives in Parliament.

The military, ISO and CMI have in the recent past been carrying out operations against some criminal gangs in the country as well as errant Police officers.
