Media personality, former national tennis star, and political mobiliser Cedric Babu Ndilima has passed away following complications related to a long-standing heart condition.

His death has sent shockwaves across Uganda’s media, sports, and political communities.

Babu, who recently served as the Vice Chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) for Kampala, had been receiving treatment for a serious heart condition.

Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), where Cedric previously hosted the popular Cedric Live Show, paid tribute to him as a “valued member of the UBC family.”

In a statement, UBC said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Cedric Babu Ndilima. Through The Cedric Live Show, he brought insight and vibrance to our screens. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

A campaign was launched on social media to raise Shs1.5 billion for life-saving surgery in the United Kingdom.

While the fundraising drive garnered support from friends, family, and key figures, it was also met with mixed reactions from members of the public.

State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara, also Vice Chairman of PLU Western Uganda, expressed sorrow and frustration at the negative online comments surrounding Cedric’s health battle.

Born into a family known for public service and sports excellence—his father, Francis Babu, being a former Member of Parliament and sports official—Cedric made a name for himself in Uganda’s media and sports circles.

He previously served as chairman of the Uganda National Boxing Federation and was widely admired for his charisma, strategic thinking, and passion for youth empowerment.
