The Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) has appointed Ken Agutamba, Country Manager for Reputation and Corporate Communication at Stanbic Bank Uganda, as the new Chairperson of the Peer Committee on Marketing and Communication. He succeeds Jude Kansiime of DFCU Bank.
Agutamba’s appointment follows a sector-wide nomination and consultation process that culminated in his unanimous endorsement. He will serve alongside Agnes Mubiru of Cairo Bank, who assumes the position of Vice Chairperson.
The committee plays a critical role in shaping unified communication strategies and strengthening reputation management efforts across Uganda’s licensed commercial banks and financial institutions.
In his acceptance remarks, Agutamba said: “It’s a privilege to serve at such a critical time for our sector. The banking industry is under increasing reputational pressure from financial fraud, customer scepticism, and misinformation. This platform allows us to collectively reshape the narrative by building trust, communicating value, and fostering transparency.”
“I am committed to using this role to elevate the sector’s reputation by contributing to a healthier, more robust financial ecosystem for all stakeholders. We will work with colleagues on the committee to ensure our industry communicates with clarity, credibility, and confidence.”
Patricia Amito, Head of Communications at UBA, welcomed the new leadership: “We are delighted to have Ken take on this leadership role. His exceptional work chairing our media engagement subcommittee, his strategic insight and proven reputation management expertise make him the right choice to lead the committee. We are confident that under his guidance, the committee will be more dynamic, responsive, and impactful in meeting the sector’s evolving communication needs.”
Agutamba brings over a decade of experience in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and public affairs across the banking, media, and development sectors in East Africa. At Stanbic Bank Uganda, his leadership has driven initiatives that significantly improved the bank’s public image, stakeholder trust, and thought leadership within the financial services industry.
The UBA Peer Committee on Marketing and Communication is tasked with coordinating industry-wide communication strategies, sharing best practices, and supporting initiatives focused on reputation management, customer education, and crisis response in the banking sector.
