Minister Muyingo Urges Kyambogo University Council to Foster Growth and Integrity

The State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has called on the newly inaugurated sixth Council of Kyambogo University to utilize their diverse experiences and backgrounds in driving the institution’s growth and success.

Speaking at an induction ceremony, Dr. Muyingo emphasized the council’s critical role in providing strategic direction, formulating policies, and creating an environment conducive to the university’s continuous improvement.

“Over the years, Kyambogo University has grown in both size and stature, consistently improving, advancing, and expanding,” Dr. Muyingo stated. “As the highest governing body of the university, your role is to direct the management, develop policies to guide the university’s operations, and create a positive environment for the institution to thrive.”

He urged the council members to serve with compassion, dedication, and integrity, cautioning against the detrimental effects of conflicts between governing bodies and management.

“We have witnessed instances where governing bodies clash with management, and this only stifles progress. As council members, you must set aside your individual constituencies and work together as one body with a focus on the university’s broader goals.”

He also commended the university’s management for its efforts in infrastructure development and the continuous enhancement of teaching and learning.

“We appreciate the management’s work on infrastructure development and their ongoing commitment to teaching and learning. The results are evident in the increasing number of graduates each year. Keep striving for greater heights.”

The Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, Prof. Eli Katunguka-Rwakishaya, expressed his commitment to collaborating with the new council to create strategic plans focusing on funding and resource mobilization.

“Kyambogo, like many other public universities, faces numerous challenges, including underfunding. Many of our programs cannot operate effectively without sufficient funding,” he said. “We need financial support to develop infrastructure and to recruit and retain the best staff. The council will address these issues through its various committees.”

He added, “The council has government representatives who can help advocate for funding. This is one of the key areas where we expect them to support us—by seeking financial resources and connecting us with government programs that can stimulate teaching and learning at the university.”

Prof. Katunguka also highlighted the council’s role as the university’s supreme governing body, responsible for policy development, among other responsibilities. He urged the members to help consolidate the university’s achievements and ensure future growth.

 “The council’s role will be vital in advancing the university through providing physical infrastructure, enhancing ICT, fostering good governance, and offering policy direction to guide us as we continue to build Kyambogo University.”
