The Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) has canceled Exam results for 34 candidates who engaged in examination malpractice.

Speaking at the release of the UBTEB May/June 2024 examination results, Onesmus Oyesigye, UBTEB Executive Secretary, said the affected students were thoroughly investigated and after a fair hearing, the board is recommending cancellation of the results.

He noted that the students will have to repeat the whole semester.

“The board is now recommending the cancel of the entire semester for the 34 affected candidates in accordance with Section 9 (3) of the UBTEB regulations,” said Oyesigye.

He revealed that the board has noted that cases of examination malpractice have continued to reducers compared to post examination series.

Oyesigye revealed that a total of 1,694 candidates that sat for examinations, 1468 (87%) acquired full competences and successfully completed their courses.

He noted that the candidates are eligible for further training both horizontally and vertically as recommended by the TVET Policy 2019.

The other 226 (13%) candidates that did not complete their courses will be given an opportunity to re-sit their different papers to perfect their competences in the next series of examinations.

The competitive acquisition rate across genders is 79% for female candidates and 95% for males at Diploma level. However, there was no significant in gender performance at the certificate level with females passing at 84% and male candidates at 85%.

He attributed the performance on continuous assessment, industrial training, Practical assessment, among others.

The Minister of State for Primary Education, Joyce Moriku Kaducu, said the NRM government has paid attention to TVET because it plays a critical role in equipping the Youth with practical skills that are directly applicable to the job market.

“The government is committed to strengthening the sector through several initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of TVET, this is also coupled with the on-going reforms and efforts to enact the TVET law for streamlining the Sub-sector,” Kaducu who represented the First Lady Janet Museveni said.

On examination malpractice, she agreed with the recommendation of the board to cancel results of the 34 candidates.

“TVET institutions and trainees should desist from the Vice. The ministry does not tolerate any form of examination malpractice and condemns it,” she said.
