The Executive Council re-elected to the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, Judge Blaise Tchikaya (Congo) and Judge Stella Anukam (Nigeria) for a second term of 6 years each.

They were initially elected judges of the Court in July 2018 for 6 years.

The Council also elected Hon Justice Gaswaga (Uganda) for a 6-year term, replacing Hon Judge Ben Kioko from Kenya, who has retired after serving two terms of 6 years each (2012-2024).

Hon Gaswaga has served as a Judge in Uganda High Court and Supreme Court of Seychelles.

The African Court was established to protect the continent’s human rights and basic freedoms.
