Three people have Friday been remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly stealing Shs 6.2 million belonging to singer, Angella Katatumba as well as assaulting her and Jamaican singer, Kuzi Kz.

Makindye Chief Magistrates Court remanded the three; Olubrwoth Choka Rogers, Okirot Denis and Kadu John all staffers at Chicken Tonight restaurant in Kabalagala, to Luzira prison.

Choka, 26 is the Manager of Chicken Tonight (Kabalagala), Okirot, 28 works as the security guard while 19-year-old Kadu is a waiter.

The Chief Magistrate, His Worship Elias Kakooza charged the three with assault, theft and causing grievous harm contrary to Sections 263, 254 (1) and 219 of the Penal Code Act respectively.

It is alleged that on Friday last week at around 5am, Angella Katatumba was brutally beaten up by a group of men at the Kabalagala based chicken takeaway.

The singer together with Jamaica musician Kuzi Kz real names Oneil Burke had gone to the takeaway to eat after a long studio recording session.

However, the problem stemmed from a waiter who offered Kuzi Kz Chilli sauce instead of the Ketchup he had asked for. When they walked over the counter to raise a complaint since Kuzi Kz could no longer eat the food already spread on with chilli, they were asked to leave.

Their efforts to talk to the Manager (Choka) about the issue were fruitless as he instead called in the security guard and a few other men to drag them outside. It is at this point that Kuzi Kz was assaulted and in the process of saving him from the gang, Angella was pushed helplessly to the ground.

CCTV footage outside the takeaway shows a man shoving Angella from the inside of the premises and throwing her outside and then kicking her several times. The man then picks the trash can and hits it on Angella’s face.

According to Angella, her hand bag containing the Shs 6.2 million was taken by one of the men during the altercation.

The singer later filed charges against the Management of Chicken Tonight, Kabalagala.

On Friday Katatumba posted on her Facebook; “I take this opportunity to thank the Uganda Police Department and the Ugandan justice system for taking the drastic action we were hoping for in begining the process to deal with the criminals”.
