Following a successful event last year at the Kampala Serena Hotel, the call for the 2018 Young Achievers’ Awards that identifies and recognizes young people in Uganda who have demonstrated excellence, innovation and leadership in their respective field is back.

The awards, organized by Reach a Hand Uganda (RAHU), a youth led non-profit organization focused on youth empowerment programs with an emphasis on sexual reproduvtive health awareness and prevention look to attract a number of exceptiobal youth in different fields to try out their luck.

Speaking to Humphrey Habimanya, Team Leader, RAHU at Eureka Place and suites in Ntinda on Tuesday, he advised the young people to nominate fellow youth or even themselves for these prestigious awards.

He was speaking to a group of youth that were undergoing a two-day workshop on sexual reproductive health in Ntinda.

“We are in a global era of technology and trying to find answers to literally everything that comes around us and as such, those who have mastered their game need to be honored and recognized as a way of inspiring the young generation into creative thinking,” Nabimanya said.

He added; “Ugandan youth have the potential and am sure there are hundreds of innovative projects out there that simply need to be brought into the spotlight, the Young achievers awards is the definite choice to focus on”.

According to Nabimanya, the Awards Committee decided to maintain all categories in the previous years. The categories are; Farming and Agro-processing, Social entrepreneurship, Innovation & ICT, Creative arts (arts, music, Fashion, fmFilm, and Photography.

The RAHU Team Leader revealed that the second edition of the annual Awards will come with buildup activities like a follow up on the activities of previous winners after each was given a financial boost of Shs 5 million each by President Yoweri Museveni.

The Young Achiever Awards were initiated five years ago by two young entrepreneurs, Awel Uwihanganye and Ivan Kyambadde before the franchise was official taken over by Reach a Hand Uganda (RAHU) in 2017.

Last year’s winners included Ali Mufuruki (Lifetime achievement), Prof Peter Mugyenyi (Hero Award), Brian Ahumuza (Fashion), Mileage Band (Music) and Jacob Kiplimo (Sports).
