The senior officer was identified as Col. Godfrey Kayondo, the commanding officer of the 409 Battalion.

They were first admitted to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital and later airlifted to Bombo military hospital for further management.

Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd division spokesperson, told URN that six soldiers sustained severe injuries while five escaped with minor injuries.

According to Oware, the car overturned after sustaining a tyre burst.

According to Daily Monitor, two other people got injured in the Friday night car crash along Broadway Road in Masaka City.

Raurah Nakasujja and Peter Mbaziira, a doctor at Byansi Hospital in Masaka City, died while the Sinotruck driver and his turn boy survived with injuries.

The accident reportedly happened at Nakayiba swamp when Dr Mbaziira, who was driving a Toyota Raum car, rammed into a Sinotruck carrying sand.

Dr Mbaziira was driving towards Nyendo, a Masaka City suburb.

This is the same spot where Masaka Sub-region Vision Group circulation manager, Gracious Niwagaba, died recently after a speeding lorry knocked a motorcycle he was riding on.
