Soldiers attached to UPDF’s 409 battalion brigade in Nabilatuk District were Friday evening involved in an accident.
Uganda Radio Network (URN) reported that the eleven soldiers including a commander were travelling in a military vehicle registration number D03DF 117, which got involved in an accident near Hotel Africana, six kilometers from Moroto town along Moroto- Soroti road.
The senior officer was identified as Col. Godfrey Kayondo, the commanding officer of the 409 Battalion.
They were first admitted to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital and later airlifted to Bombo military hospital for further management.
Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd division spokesperson, told URN that six soldiers sustained severe injuries while five escaped with minor injuries.
According to Oware, the car overturned after sustaining a tyre burst.
Doctor perishes in Masaka accident
Meanwhile, two people including a doctor died on spot on the same day in a parallel accident in Masaka district.
According to Daily Monitor, two other people got injured in the Friday night car crash along Broadway Road in Masaka City.
Raurah Nakasujja and Peter Mbaziira, a doctor at Byansi Hospital in Masaka City, died while the Sinotruck driver and his turn boy survived with injuries.
The accident reportedly happened at Nakayiba swamp when Dr Mbaziira, who was driving a Toyota Raum car, rammed into a Sinotruck carrying sand.
Dr Mbaziira was driving towards Nyendo, a Masaka City suburb.
This is the same spot where Masaka Sub-region Vision Group circulation manager, Gracious Niwagaba, died recently after a speeding lorry knocked a motorcycle he was riding on.
