Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel has urged men and women to work together in promoting family values for the betterment of society.
The Vice President made the remarks yesterday at Kitojo Primary School in Rwampara East Constituency, where she officiated a double function of a fundraising drive to build teachers’ accommodation and belatedly, commemoration of International Women’s Day. .
Alupo thanked the Rwampara District Woman Member of Parliament, Molly Asiimwe Musiime, for inviting her to the area she described as “the peak of the district” and congratulated all the women upon celebrating the day.
Major Alupo rallied all people of Rwampara and Uganda at large to unite, regardless of religious creed, gender, political affiliation age or tribe.
“If we are united, we accomplish all tasks including developing Rwampara and Uganda,” Major Alupo said.
She thanked the people of Rwampara in particular and Ankole in general for maintaining Peace, and pledged Government’s continued sustained efforts in securing people and their property saying that peace is a bedrock of any development in any community.
She asked parents to take all children to school, irrespective of gender, until they complete the school cycle and thanked the area Members of Parliament for raising the challenges of social services. She pledged to add her voice to lobbying for more, better and improved services saying that government policies are not cast in stone.
“There are areas like safe water coverage that need more critical intervention and this will be considered”, she said.
Rwampara District which is mostly covered by hilly area has water coverage at a paltry 8% which is insufficient for the growing population.
“This is so low and we will borrow ideas and improve the water facilities in Rwampara District”, Alupo stressed.
Alupo thanked the leaders for implementing the Parish Development Model and urged them to keep their integrity high, reiterating the voice of the President on the 2- year Parish Development Model repayment plan.
“Let’s all take responsibility to make sure that women and youth are included in accessing the funds”, Alupo said.
She thanked the District Woman Member of Parliament Asiimwe Musiime for her desire to help and change Rwampara by Developing Human relations among the people that have diverse backgrounds.
The Vice President encouraged people to remember the country’s history through years of turmoil to years of progress which would help them make informed decisions in various ways.
“All the women feel indebted to the President for uplifting the female voice through various deliberate efforts and developing their capacity. We have a female Vice President, a Speaker, a Prime Minister, several Ministers; and we use these positions to serve the people, as we do so, I encourage all women to participate in uplifting their homes, communities and societies,” Alupo said.
The Vice President noted that President Museveni would continue his Parish Development Model tours across the country as he continue to engage the people in the anti poverty drives and the Vice President used the occasion to rally support for President Museveni during the 2026 elections.
Alupo contributed Ugx 20 million to the school fundraising drive and also pledged Ugx 15 million to the different women groups in Rwampara District and later auctioned a heifer with a starting price of Ugx 10 million where a total of over Ugx 70 million was raised.
On her part, Hon Asiimwe Musiime said the Vice President’s presence in the District was memorable and thanked the President for appointing the Vice President who she said “has become a voice of the voiceless, voice of women” through the leadership appointment.
“Thank you for being a model, for being humble, and approachable servant and we pray for you. We know how challenging the job is, but you are equal to the task”, Hon Asiimwe said.
Asiimwe highlighted some of the challenges the area is facing, citing lack of a Refferal Hospital to handle emergency operations. She also highlighted a pledge made by the President to tarmac two major roads- Ruti – Mwizi – Kabuyanda and and Nyakiraguju – Bugamba – Kitwe.
“Rwampara is the heart of production with coffee, tea, matoke but roads are impassable, benefitting middle men more than farmers. This can’t allow us to thrive, please help us remind the President to fulfil the pledge, because we are capable of high export”, Hon Asiimwe said.
Various speakers at the event, pledged their support to President Museveni and NRM because of the different other interventions like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga programs which has a 65% recovery rate in Rwampara District.
Leaders also noted that Government has made several interventions such as the 60km community access road program, electricity interventions for all the Parishes, upgrade of health centres among others.
The colorful function was attended by Ambassador Francis Butagira, who is the former Speaker of Parliament of Uganda and also former Member of Parliament for Greater Rwampara County, several MPs attended the function and contributed to the fundraising drive.
