The Brenthurst Foundation has released a song recorded by Ugandan musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, alongside Ukrainian artist Sofia Grabovetska of famous band String Mocking Bird.
The song titled “Alone But Altogether” touches the Russian invasion of Ukraine and gives hope to the suffering Ukrainians by assuring them that the world is with them.
“You are not alone. We are together. Standing for each other, we will find a solution. Don’t be a victim, be a solution…,” Bobi Wine sings along with Ukrainian artists.
In 2022, Zitto Kabwe and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu joined The Brenthurst Foundation on a field-trip to Ukraine, the fifth by the Foundation since the war started.
During his recent visit to Ukraine, Bobi Wine held meetings with several Ukrainian government officials and human rights activists.
“Forget the missiles and the tanks, we are deploying our most potent weapon for the universal struggle for freedom and that is music. I concluded my Ukraine visit with a studio session at the Maryam and Jenny Records Studio with the String Mocking Band and the country’s top artistes; Sofia Grabovetska, a singer and bandura player; Bogdan Khmara on the violin; Mykyta Kozhukhar on drums and Pavlov Krip on bass to produce some sounds of freedom. Watch the space,” he said.
Robert, also known as Bobi Wine, recorded two songs in Lviv with local band String Mockingbird, both featuring Sofia Grabovetska.
The songs were written by Greg Mills, Robin Auld and Bobi.
The production of “Alone But Altogether” was managed in real time from Jenny Records in Lviv and by Murray Anderson at Milestone studio in Cape Town.
This is the first of the two tracks based on the original production of ‘Alone But Altogether’.
Greg Mills is the Director of The Brenthurst Foundation, Marie-Noelle Nwokolo is a Researcher at The Brenthurst Foundation, Richard Harper is a Photographer and Logistics Consultant, Robin Auld is a South African musician while Zitto Kabwe is the Leader of ACT–Wazalendo, Tanzania.
ALONE TOGETHER
In 2020, Bobi Wine joined Africa’s top leaders to release the song “Alone Together” as the coronavirus pandemic ravaged the continent.
“All alone but altogether…in our homes, for each other…Try not to be a victim, be an answer…I realize we will discover an answer here in Africa,” he sung while rallying leaders to join the fight against the pandemic.
“Very lowered to do this tune with nearby famous African pioneers on the African landmass. We trust the melody empowers all of us and gives us trust as we stand up to the Coronavirus pandemic with mental fortitude and bondage,” pointed out Bobi Wine.
The song featured South African artistes Robin Auld, Schalk Joubert, Lumanyano Unity Mzi, Greg Mills of Brenhurst Foundation and Nigeria’s Amuta Stone as well as former and current African presidents.
It was supported by South African Charity Organization known as the Brenhurst Foundation which was liable for uniting the members for the motivations behind overseeing the undertaking to fulfilment.
