The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has revised transit guidelines for motorists using alternative routes through Murchison Falls National Park. Buses can temporarily transit via the Kichumbanyobo-Tangi route until December 31, 2024. This change aims to enhance traveller convenience while maintaining park integrity.
Previously, vehicles transiting through Kichumbanyobo gate were required to pay park entrance fees.
However, due to Karuma Bridge’s temporary closure, UWA permitted motorists to use alternative routes, including Tangi-Bugungu gates via Bulisa Town Council, free of charge.
Operating hours are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Motorists must plan journeys accordingly and adhere to set hours. Transit visitors must enter by 6:00 pm to exit by 7:00 pm.
UWA enforces a 40 km/h speed limit within the park. Non-compliance attracts fines or penalties.
Other guidelines include: No littering (UGX 100,000 fine), No unnecessary stopping, Authorized tourist vehicles only may deviate from designated routes, No hooting (UGX 100,000 fine), and No feeding animals.
UWA emphasized adherence to these guidelines to ensure safety, protect wildlife, and preserve the park’s environment.
