The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has been crowned Government Agency of the Year at the 2025 KACITA Quality Awards, emerging ahead of fellow nominees Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The annual KACITA Quality Awards honour institutions and individuals demonstrating outstanding excellence, innovation and customer-centric service across sectors.
URSB’s win highlights its growing reputation as a key driver of Uganda’s business competitiveness, thanks to its strengthened public–private partnerships and streamlined service delivery. As the national agency responsible for business and intellectual property registration, insolvency management and related services, URSB plays a central role in helping enterprises formalise, access financing and scale.
Registrar General Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho has led the bureau through an ambitious transformation agenda, prioritising digitisation, efficiency and nationwide accessibility. The introduction of the revamped online business registration system has already enabled thousands of entrepreneurs to register faster and more conveniently, opening new opportunities in the formal economy.
Winning this award—one of the highest recognitions celebrating quality and service excellence in both the public and private sectors—marks a significant milestone for URSB. It affirms the bureau’s progress in embedding innovation, responsiveness and customer satisfaction in its operations.
Building on this momentum, URSB has rolled out a nationwide mass awareness campaign aimed at increasing uptake of its registration services. The campaign is a key pillar of the Bureau’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, which seeks to position URSB as a Centre of Excellence in business facilitation.
By expanding awareness, simplifying registration and supporting entrepreneurship, URSB aims to accelerate formalisation, stimulate job creation and strengthen Uganda’s economic growth.
In a statement, the Bureau expressed gratitude to the public, private sector stakeholders and business community for their continued trust, reaffirming its commitment to transparent, high-quality and impactful service delivery.
