One of the assailants who killed a soldier attached to Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) barracks in Jinja district, has been put out of action.
The development was announced Saturday evening by Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.
“Today, 26th November 2022, one of the assailants that carried out the attack on Sentry along Ambercourt road in Gaddafi Barracks where one soldier was killed and two SMG rifles stolen has been put out of action and two stolen guns recovered,” Brig Gen Kulayigye revealed.
The attack occurred on November 17. RA/110575 Sgt Eyagu Simon Peter, a UPDF soldier attached to Gaddaffi Barracks Jinja Cantonment, was shot and strangled to death while his colleague had gone to buy some drink.
Sgt Eyagu was deployed together with L/Cpl Kibirige Norico to guard a small gate of Ambercourt Road within the perimeter of Gaddaffi barracks.
In this attack, two weapons (SMG guns) were taken. Two suspects were arrested.
According to Brig Gen Kulayigye, the two guns have been recovered in an operation against the attackers.
