Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have this afternoon attacked the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) camped and operating in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
A statement issued today by UPDF spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire said the attack on ADF camps was planned following joint intelligence by Uganda and DRC.
“Shared intelligence between Uganda and the DRC confirmed that ADF terrorists who recently carried out the attack on UN peace keepers under MONUSCO, were planning to conduct hostile activities against Uganda,” the statement read.
In a preemptive move, UPDF this afternoon conducted attacks on ADF camps in Eastern DRC.
“ADF terrorists may only buy time but will be targeted wherever they are hiding,” Brig Kalemire said in the statement.
ADF, weeks ago, attacked and killed Tanzanian UN peace keepers who operated under MONUSCO in a raid described by the UN as the deadliest attack ever on a UN peace keeping mission.
UPDF attack on ADF has been launched a day after Brig Muhanga Kayanja who has just completed his tour of duty in Somalia was appointed Commander of the Second Division and Brig Leopold Kyanda reappointed Chief of Staff of Land Forces after completion of a course in India. UPDF’s Second Division takes jurisdiction of the western axis of Uganda all the way to the border of DRC.
