Maj Gen Charles Okidi, the UPDF Airforce deputy commander, has traveled to Fort Portal in Western Uganda following a UPDF helicopter crash.
Major Peter Mugisa, the Public Information Officer of UPDF Mountain Division, told SoftPower News that the helicopter crashed into a mud and wattle house at Saaka shortly after take-off.
According to Maj Mugisa, the occupants of the house as well as the crew and pilot managed to come out safely.
“This morning, our MI 24 helicopter developed a mechanical fault while in flight and the pilot made an emergency landing,” UPDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye confirmed.
“Fortunately, no casualties both to the occupants of the plane and on the ground,” he added.
According to Kulayigye, a team has been dispatched from the UPDF Airforce (UPDAF) headquarters under the command of Deputy Air Force Commander Gen Okidi to establish what could have been the cause.
