Kwania — Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) stalwart and Kwania District Chairperson, Alex Ogwal, has declared his support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
Speaking at Museveni’s campaign rally in Kwania on Friday, Ogwal welcomed the President and praised the central government’s security and administrative team for maintaining peace in the district.
“Kwania is calm, Your Excellency. I thank you for the service you have given us as the people of Kwania, and because of that, I offer my support for you this time,” Ogwal said. He pledged to mobilise support for the NRM across Kwania and the wider Lango sub-region, stressing the role of elders in guiding society before retiring “honourably.”
Ogwal also appealed to Museveni to prioritise infrastructure, particularly road projects around swamps near Lake Kwania, and requested him to officially commission the district’s administration block, whose foundation stone was laid in the President’s name.
In his address, President Museveni, running under the NRM campaign theme “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status,” urged the people of Lango to rally behind him and the NRM flag bearers for continued development.
“I appeal to you to support the NRM and the old man with the hat so that we continue with this work and do more,” Museveni told thousands gathered in Aduku Town Council. He outlined government plans to expand infrastructure, tap oil revenues, and strengthen wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga SACCOs.
The President cited examples of successful local farmers, like Joel Okello of Amolatar, to illustrate the potential of homegrown entrepreneurship. He also promised to improve roads in Apoi, Apala, Adwari, Baralegi, Dokolo, Amolatar, and Namasale, and to implement targeted programs, including cattle restocking, fisheries cooperatives, and special funds for religious leaders.
“Chase poverty from your homes by creating wealth. With football, you can be a spectator, but with wealth creation, everyone must be a player,” Museveni said.
Kwania District, home to over 216,000 people, has already benefited from shs. 15.05bn under the PDM, reaching more than 21,000 households. The government has also invested in education and cattle compensation across the Lango sub-region.
The rally was attended by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, and cultural representatives.
