The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has announced a plan to remove all abandoned and broken-down vehicles along highways.
“UNRA wishes to notify the general public and particularly motorists that preparations are under way to remove all abandoned and broken-down vehicles along the national highways in accordance with Section 58 and 59 of the Roads Act, 2019,” the roads authority said on Thursday.
According to the statement, these vehicles create safety hazards along the roads.
Important to note is that the removal of the abandoned and broken-down vehicles shall be done at the cost of the owner in accordance with the said Act, management noted.
“All motorists are, therefore, requested to start making the necessary arrangements to ensure that broken-down or abandoned vehicles are removed from the road within a period of two hours (for urban areas) and six hours (for rural areas) whenever such incidents happen on the road as stipulated in the Act.”
“Further details regarding the progress of the preparations to enforce compliance will be shared in due course.”
