UNHCR Diplomat, Khamis Ali Under Fire for Sexually Abusing Refugees

The Kitgum municipality Member of Parliament, Beatrice Atim Anywar has raised concern over one UN diplomat working in Lamwo refugee camp who is sexually abusing the girls in the area.

She says the diplomat from UNHCR by the names of Khamis Ali who heads the Lamwo refugee camp team is becoming a disgrace to the society, that he picks girls and takes them to hotels in Kitgum, harasses and has so far sodomised about five girls.

Anywar explains that though his case was reported to police a week ago, nothing has been done by the authorities who she said all fear arresting and prosecuting him since he is a diplomat.

“Personally I was there the other week and the man is not yet arrested, they fear that he is a diplomat, I am going to raise my call to Parliament and I will appeal to all well-wishers to address the same and to his bosses,” Anwar said.

She threatens that once no action is taken before the end of this week, they will, as leaders, mobilize the locals in Acholi particularly in Kitgum municipality to demonstrate against the diplomat’s conduct.

“This gentleman cannot continue walking free when he has already defiled over 5 girls and some of the girls are sick with no one helping them.”
