The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported a significant rise in the number of candidates registered for the 2025 national examinations, with a total of 1,412,248 learners registered across the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) levels.
According to Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, Principal Public Relations Officer at UNEB, this represents an increase of 103,250 candidates, or 7.31%, compared to the 2024 figures, which stood at 1,308,998.
The figures, released in a press statement on July 3, follow the end of the first phase of late registration that concluded on June 30. Of the total registered, 51% (719,721 candidates) are sponsored by the government under Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the Uganda Post O’Level Education and Training Programme (UPOLET).
UNEB noted that registration remains open until the end of July, subject to a surcharge. Schools have been urged to register all eligible learners to ensure no one is left behind. Amendments to candidate information can still be made—free of charge—within this period.
Additionally, Heads of UCE centres are advised to submit Continuous Assessment scores for Senior Three (S.3) and Senior Four (S.4) students by the end of Term II.
