UNEB Makes Last Call to Register 2022 Candidates

The Executive Secretary for Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), Mr. Dan Odongo

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has appealed to parents and guardians to endeavour to pay for the registration of the potential candidates, before the end of the first deadline, to avoid paying a surcharge.

It is less than a week, before the end of the normal registration period for the 2022 UNEB candidates.

UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo reminded the Heads of Centres for the government-aided schools to upload the candidate data as soon as possible to minimize challenges related to last-minute submission.

“Heads of both new and old centres are urged to verify the accuracy of the data with the candidates, before uploading,” he noted.

So far, data for 93% of the expected PLE candidates have been submitted to UNEB, while 63 % of the UCE and 54% of the UACE candidates’ data has been uploaded.

This translates to about one million, fifty five thousand, three hundred thirty six (1,055,336) candidates registered at all levels.

The normal registration period ends on May 31, while late registration, which attracts a surcharge, will take place during the month of June, 2022.

Display of candidates’ registers/ Slips

As provided for in the UNEB Act 2021 S.4(2), Headteachers and District/City / Municipal Inspectors of Schools were directed to display the register of the candidates registered for the examinations in a conspicuous place at the school and district noticeboards respectively, by 13th August 2022.

“Parents, candidates and other interested parties should make use of the display to confirm the registration status of the learners as well as the accuracy of data provided,” Odongo advised.

The parents of students studying in schools that do not have UNEB centre status are urged to find out from the school headteachers where these students have been registered and ensure that they have been duly registered.

“This is important to avoid the unfortunate scenario where students are discovered unregistered at the start of the examination period.”

Relatedly, at the end of the registration period, UNEB will provide an SMS option on mobile telephone handsets for candidates and parents to confirm the registration status of the learners.

One will be required to know the full index number of the candidate,- type Reg, space, Index No. and send to 6600.

According to Odongo, any amendments that may need to be done shall be sent back to UNEB through the school before the commencement of the examinations.

Caution against registering private candidates as Government sponsored candidates

UNEB has also cautioned Heads of government aided schools not to register privately sponsored candidates as government sponsored candidates.

“This is a fraudulent practice which causes financial loss to government. Any head of an examination centre or school director discovered to have indulged in this practice shall pay twice the amount that has been defrauded. Relevant laws on fraud will also be applied on such headteachers or directors and in addition, the examination centre number of the school shall be withdrawn,” he concluded.
