The National Standards Council (NSC), the governing body of the the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), has appointed Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama as the Acting Executive Director.
Mr. Daniel Richard Makayi Nangalama has been serving at the Bureau as the Deputy Executive Director in charge of Management and Financial Services.
He replaces David Livingstone Ebiru who is battling cases of fraud and misconduct.
Ebiru was last week sent on forced leave for a period of six months by the Minister of Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa.
In a letter dated 20 July 2023, the Minister told Ebiru that his suspension will take immediate effect to enable sufficient investigations into the alleged misappropriation of funds, misconduct, and abuse of office.
In the letter, the Minister also called for an immediate appointment of a caretaker who will oversee the day to day running of the bureau.
“By copy of this letter, the Chairperson of the Standards Council should ensure that a suitable caretaker of the office is identified and the matter is sufficiently investigated within the set timelines while following the law”
Ebiru is accused of masterminding expenditure of 12.5 billion Shillings without approval from the Ministry of Finance and Parliament following the Auditor General’s Report for the fiscal year 2021/2022 on the financial statements of UNBS.
