Kenya’s fourth President, H.E. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, is in Uganda for the Second Annual Guild Leaders Summit 2025, hosted at Makerere University.
H.E. Kenyatta, who arrived Wednesday evening, will deliver a keynote address to young African leaders at the Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility Auditorium, Makerere University, today, Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The summit, organised by the Guild Presidents Leadership Academy (GPLA) in collaboration with several regional and international partners including Reach A Hand Africa, CIVICUS, UNIFOG, and UNICAF, brings together Guild Presidents and student leaders from universities across East Africa under the theme: “Institutional Accountability: The Backbone of Good Governance.”

H.E. Kenyatta, who served as Kenya’s fourth president from 2013 to 2022, now serves as a peace envoy to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia.
The summit will feature a robust panel discussion with key student leaders, including H.E. Peace Agutiin Cornelius, Guild President, Makerere University Business School of Technology and Science (BMSOTZ); H.E. Andrew Mwebaza, Guild President, University of Rwanda; Eunice Wawuda, Student Leader, University of Nairobi and Rt. Hon. Kiruhu Isaac, Guild Speaker, Makerere University.

The discussion, moderated by Oremo Odwee Hillary, 88th GRC at Makerere, the summit will focus on the practical strategies needed to enforce accountability mechanisms within African higher institutions and their link to national leadership.
Throughout the day, the campus will buzz with activity as delegates from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and beyond engage in roundtable talks, cultural exchanges, and networking sessions.

The Guild Leaders Summit is positioning itself as a premier platform for nurturing leadership across Africa, reinforcing Makerere University’s status as a hub for progressive thought and action in the region.
