The Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) and Equity Bank Uganda have officially renewed their partnership to scale up access to green finance, ushering in Phase II of a transformative programme designed to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) driving Uganda’s green economy.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held at Protea Hotel in Kampala, marking the next chapter in a collaboration that has already seen over 100 green loans disbursed to innovative businesses in clean energy, sustainable tourism, green manufacturing, waste management, and green mobility under Phase I.
Supported by the European Union and implemented by adelphi global gGmbH, the initiative combines tailored financing solutions with expert business development support to unlock the potential of Uganda’s green enterprises.
Expanding Access to Green Finance
Speaking at the event, Catherine Psomgen, Director Public Sector and Social Investment at Equity Bank Uganda, highlighted the programme’s impact:

“Our experience in Phase I is proof that finance can be a powerful catalyst for transformation. Together, we financed 85 green businesses, disbursing over UGX 27 billion to enterprises driving climate solutions, creating jobs, and strengthening community resilience. Phase II gives us a real chance to scale up green lending and tackle barriers like collateral gaps, cash flow constraints, and access to long-term capital.”
She reaffirmed Equity Bank’s commitment to deepening support for green SMEs through innovative financing mechanisms and partnerships.
European Union Backs Green Transition
Cristina Bănuţă, Programme Manager – Access to Finance, Agribusiness and Land at the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda, commended the partnership’s achievements:

“The EU is proud to support UGEFA and Equity Bank in expanding access to green finance. Their collaboration is a powerful example of how financial institutions can drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth. We are confident Phase II will unlock even greater opportunities for Uganda’s SMEs.”
Call for Green Enterprises
UGEFA Project Lead Christine Meyer announced the launch of a new call for applications for green SMEs eager to benefit from the programme’s business advisory services, tailored financing, and technical support. Interested enterprises can now apply via the UGEFA website using the code EQUITY25.
“We are thrilled to continue this collaboration with Equity Bank and invite more entrepreneurs to join us in building a sustainable, resilient future for Uganda,” she said.
With over 340 enterprises already in the pipeline and expanded financing mechanisms in place, Phase II of the UGEFA–Equity Bank partnership is set to accelerate climate action while fostering economic growth and job creation across Uganda.
