Over the weekend, the reigning Miss Uganda, Hannah Karema, 21, emerged as the 1st Runner-up for Miss World Africa.
She also emerged as the winner of ‘Beauty With a Purpose’ at the 71st Miss World held at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre in India.
Czech Republic’s Krystyna Pyszkova was crowned Miss World. The Miss World Africa crown went to Botswana’s Lesego Chombo.
Karema was crowned Miss Uganda in 2023, beating off competition from 20 other ladies.
She came close to replicating former Miss World Africa, Quiin Abenakyo’s achievement.
She, however, failed to progress to the top four, losing the Miss World Africa crown to Miss Botswana, Chombo.
Karema’s “Beauty with a Purpose” (BWAP) project presentation impressed the judges, thrusting her into the top 25 contestants, and ultimately to the top 8.
Through the BWAP project, she has been able to support the girl child education, distribute reusable sanitary pads, and promote menstrual hygiene in different parts of the country.
“Big one for Africa, Honored to represent my country on a global stage, I humbly extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Miss World for such a memorable experience, Thank you for recognizing my work and giving me such a big platform to express my self,” she said.
