WASHINGTON, DC — The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has appointed Dr. Agnes Binagwaho and Agnes Igoye to the organization’s Board of Directors.

Binagwaho and Igoye bring to the Board deep understanding and experience in global health equity, child protection, and the prevention of human trafficking.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Binagwaho and Ms. Igoye to ICRW’s Board,” said ICRW President and CEO Peggy Clark.

“Both bring a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and insights that will further ICRW’s mission to advance the rights and opportunities for women and girls around the world.”

Dr. Agnes Binagwaho is a Rwandan pediatrician who currently serves as Vice Chancellor and co-founder of the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), an initiative of Partners in Health focused on changing how health care is delivered around the world by training global health professionals who strive to deliver more equitable, quality health services for all.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Binagwaho served as the Executive Secretary of Rwanda’s National AIDS Control Commission, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and as Minister of Health.

Ms. Agnes Igoye currently serves as Uganda’s deputy national coordinator for the prevention of trafficking.

She is a member of The Labour Migration Experts Reference Group and one of Uganda’s negotiators of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s free movement protocol.

Igoye is a Senior Aspen New Voices Fellow and teaches online child protection courses at Harvard University. She is also an ambassador and mentor at The Clinton Global Initiative University.

“We cannot wait to start working with Dr. Binagwaho and Ms. Igoye,” said Board Chair and Head of Impact at The Meteor, Tara Abrahams.

“Given the challenges women and girls face worldwide, challenges that are highlighted and compounded by a global pandemic and economic fallout, the experience and nuanced understanding these two women bring to the Board could not be at a more important and pivotal time for ICRW and the globe.”

With an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences and a master’s in Sociology from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, Ms. Igoye was one of New African Magazine’s 100 most influential Africans in 2015.

She is also the recipient of several awards, including the Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF) International Award; The Josephine S.
