The Minister of State for Investment and Privatisation, Evelyn Anite, has called on Ugandans to shed off their inferiority complex about the quality of locally made products.
Anite made the call during the unveiling of TCL’s 2025 lineup of products, including TVs, fridges, sound bars, washing machines, and air conditioners, which are manufactured in Uganda.
Anite emphasized that TCL products made in Uganda are of good quality and affordable, thanks to the government’s exemption of taxes on locally manufactured goods.
“Now that they are manufactured here, government has exempted them from paying taxes, and this means the price of the final products is low,” she said.
She added that by buying locally made products, Ugandans are not only contributing to the country’s development but also supporting fellow Ugandans who work in factories.

Alvin Wang, the regional director for TCL East Africa, said that TCL has transitioned from assembling to fully manufacturing its products in Uganda, with the goal of covering the East African market with over 100 million people.
The company aims to empower households with advanced display technologies and immersive sound systems.
The unveiling featured a range of products, including the monumental 115-inch X955 TV, the C7K & C6K QD-Mini LED TV series, and the powerful Q Series soundbars.
Wang said, “As we bring the world’s most advanced display technologies and immersive sound systems to this vibrant market, we aim to empower more households with the tools to experience cinematic brilliance at home.”
