Uganda will mark its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, on 8th October 2025, with a programme that brings together business, cultural, and diplomatic engagements. The event will showcase Uganda’s economic opportunities, cultural richness, and commitment to strengthening relations with Japan and the international community.

Expo 2025, which opened in April and will conclude on 13th October 2025, is being held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Uganda’s Pavilion, situated in Commons A, has been welcoming visitors since the start of the Expo. It highlights the country’s transformation agenda, with a focus on industrialisation, exports, and investment, while also offering insights into its cultural diversity and tourism potential.

The Ugandan delegation will be led by the Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, will include senior government officials, diplomats, and private sector representatives. Uganda’s participation is being coordinated by the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority (UFZEPA) in collaboration with the Embassy of Uganda in Japan.

As part of the programme, the delegation will engage with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 7th October 2025, with discussions expected to advance trade and investment cooperation and strengthen business-to-business links.

The National Day programme on 8th October will be centred on official celebrations at the National Day Hall, beginning with an address by the Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, alongside remarks from the Japanese side. The ceremony will be enriched with cultural performances, giving visitors a vivid experience of Uganda’s traditions and creativity.

This will be followed by an official tour of the Japan and Uganda Pavilions, underscoring the spirit of partnership and exchange at Expo 2025. The day will conclude with a dinner at the Expo Guest House, providing a platform for networking and business-to-business interaction between Ugandan and Japanese stakeholders.

Following the Expo celebrations, the Prime Minister of Uganda is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan in Tokyo on 9th October 2025, a high-level engagement expected to strengthen cooperation between the two countries across trade, investment, and development.

Uganda’s participation in Expo 2025 is guided by the sub-theme “Empowering Lives.” This reflects the country’s long-term vision of achieving inclusive and sustainable prosperity through trade, innovation, and industrial growth, as articulated in Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV).

According to Mr Hez Kimoomi Alinda, Executive Director of UFZEPA, Expo 2025 Osaka provides a timely platform for Uganda to engage with the global community. “Through National Day, Uganda will highlight its development priorities, share its cultural heritage, and demonstrate its readiness to work with partners to achieve mutual growth and prosperity,” he said.

Uganda’s National Day at Expo 2025 will serve as both a celebration of national identity and a strategic engagement, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a competitive, export-led economy and a reliable partner in international trade and cooperation.
