The latest triumph reinforces Uganda Parliament’s status as a powerhouse in parliamentary sports, following a spirited tournament that brought together legislative teams from across the East African region.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa congratulated the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, and his technical team for successfully organising and delivering a memorable edition of the games.

“Congratulations to the Clerk to Parliament and the entire technical team for pulling off the #EACGames2025. This victory reflects teamwork, discipline, and commitment both on and off the pitch,” Tayebwa said.

Uganda’s football success was among several standout performances by the host nation. Parliamentarian Hon. Denes Sekabira was awarded the Golden Boot, while Hon. Linos Ngompek earned the Golden Glove for outstanding goalkeeping. Kenya’s Senator Okiya Amollo was named Best Football Player of the tournament.

In a lighter moment that delighted participants, the Deputy Speaker rewarded the official #EACGames2025 mascot, Byaruhanga, with a ticket to Morocco to watch the TotalAFCON2025, drawing cheers from delegates and fans alike.

Beyond football, Uganda posted strong performances across multiple disciplines. In women’s netball, Team Uganda emerged as champions, finishing ahead of Kenya (silver) and Burundi (bronze). Hon. Sarah Netalisire topped the scoring charts with an impressive 78 goals.

Uganda also shone in darts, winning gold in the women’s category, while Kenya took silver. In the men’s category, Kenya secured gold, Uganda claimed silver, and South Sudan finished with bronze. Hon. Laura Kanushu and Hon. Ronald Balimwezo were among the standout Ugandan performers.

In tug of war, Kenya dominated both the men’s and women’s events, with Uganda finishing second overall and South Sudan taking third place. Kenya also claimed athletics gold, while the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tayebwa, finished runner-up in the men’s golf competition.

Kenya’s Hon. David Ole Sankok, a representative to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), received a Special Award for his active participation in multiple track events, including the men’s walking race, 800 metres, and 1,500 metres.

The EAC Games 2025 showcased not only athletic excellence but also regional unity, camaraderie, and healthy competition among East African legislatures, with Uganda Parliament’s football three-peat standing out as a defining highlight of the games.
