“African Bronze Medalists!” the Uganda Rugby Union celebrated, applauding the team’s resilience and strong performance throughout the tournament.

Uganda’s Road to Bronze

Uganda opened their tournament with confidence, crushing Burkina Faso 50–00 and edging Zambia 20–14 in the pool stages to advance to the quarterfinals.

The momentum continued into the knockouts, where the Lady Cranes outclassed Tunisia 31–12 to storm into the semifinals.

Their quest for gold was halted by hosts Kenya Lionesses, who won a tightly contested match 17–10, sending Uganda into the bronze medal match.

But the Lady Cranes responded with authority, overpowering Madagascar to secure a podium finish.

Individual Brilliance: Lydia Namabiro Shines

Uganda’s Lydia Namabiro emerged as one of the tournament’s standout athletes, finishing as Top Try Scorer, earning recognition from the Uganda Olympic Committee.

Photos shared by the UOC captured jubilant scenes as the team received their bronze medals, marking yet another milestone in the rise of women’s rugby in Uganda.

The Lady Cranes’ performance in Nairobi underscores the growing strength and consistency of Ugandan women’s rugby. With a blend of experience and young talent, the team continues to cement its place among Africa’s elite.
