Uganda is Not at War, State House Speaks on UK Terror Alert

The government of Uganda has responded to a travel advisory cautioning its citizens who are residing or planning to visit the country.

In the advisory, the UK said terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Uganda. 

“Attacks could be indiscriminate or against foreign nationals or places frequented by foreign nationals,” the advisory read.

Furthermore in the updated advisory, the UK said there is a high threat of terrorist attacks globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. “You should remain vigilant at all times.” 

It urged citizens, to be vigilant at all times, especially in crowded areas and public places like hotels, transport hubs, restaurants and bars, and during major gatherings like sporting or religious events and when in close proximity to Government buildings or security installations such as police stations. 

The UK noted that Previous terrorist attacks and disrupted attacks in Uganda have targeted the security forces, places where football matches were being viewed, restaurants, buses and government buildings.

However, in response, Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to the President, said the advisory has been noted but Uganda is not at war.

He asserted that the security forces are there to ensure the safety and security of citizens and visitors.

“The advisory by the UK Gov’t to its citizens is noted but Uganda is not at war, and our security forces are there to ensure the safety and security of citizens and our visitors. Welcome to Uganda! ” he tweeted.
