Dar es Salaam — The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), has officially welcomed a delegation of tour companies and travel trade partners from Mauritius for a week-long familiarisation safari across Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa.”

Ms Laura Kahuga, the First Secretary and Accounting Officer at the Mission, extended a warm reception to the team upon their arrival, describing Uganda as a destination rich in adventure, cultural heritage, and unmatched hospitality.

“We are delighted to welcome you to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa,” Ms Kahuga said. “Please feel at home as you embark on this exciting familiarisation journey, exploring some of our remarkable tourism sites and experiencing the warmth, culture, and hospitality that define Uganda.”

As part of their first experiences in Kampala, the delegation was treated to a vibrant Cultural Night at the Ndere Cultural Centre, where they enjoyed a showcase of traditional music, dance, and storytelling. They were also introduced to iconic Ugandan dishes such as matooke, nakati, kalo, and other delicacies — a culinary experience that Ms Kahuga described as “the true heartbeat of Uganda.”

The week-long safari will highlight Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings, beginning with rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a visit to the majestic Murchison Falls, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park, and culminating in the world-renowned mountain gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

According to UTB, the familiarisation trip aims to strengthen Uganda’s appeal in the Southern African tourism market and build new partnerships with travel operators in Mauritius. Officials say the interaction will help position Uganda as a preferred destination for adventure, wildlife, and cultural tourism.

The Uganda High Commission noted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to increase tourist arrivals and promote Uganda’s unique attractions on the global stage.
