President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM Presidential flag bearer, has wrapped up his campaign trail in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions with a major rally in Kyenjojo District, emphasising peace, household wealth creation and accountable leadership.

Addressing thousands of supporters at Katoosa Primary School playground, President Museveni—accompanied by First Daughter Natasha Karugire—thanked the people for their overwhelming support.

“I am glad to have concluded my campaign rallies in both the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions here in Kyenjojo today. I thank you for the massive support,” he said.

Wealth Creation as Key Priority

Drawing from historical references, the President noted that Uganda has always been a wealthy country, citing explorer Henry Morton Stanley’s accounts during the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition (1887–1889), which described the abundance in Bunyoro-Kitara long before modern infrastructure existed.

“The wealth was already here. That is why we insist on wealth creation at the household level,” he said.

He urged residents to embrace productive enterprises under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and warned against the misuse of the funds. “PDM money is strictly for uplifting the poor. Anyone who diverts it will be held accountable,” he cautioned.

Peace and Infrastructure Development

Museveni emphasised peace as the foundation of progress, especially for districts bordering the conflict-prone Democratic Republic of Congo. He cited completed and ongoing infrastructure works, including the Karuma–Masindi–Hoima–Kagadi–Kyenjojo road corridor, upgrades on the Kyenjojo–Bwizi–Rwamwanja road and preparations for the Fort Portal–Kijura road.

“On performance, you should give us about eight out of ten,” he said, while noting rehabilitation works on the Mubende–Fort Portal road after earlier delays.

Accountability and Local Leadership

President Museveni reminded communities that parish SACCO committees are elected and encouraged them to demand accountability. “If the SACCO committee is not performing well, call a general meeting and remove them,” he said.

He also highlighted increasing access to mobile phones as evidence of development.

Human Capital Transformation

The President handed over NRM flags to district candidates and interacted with beneficiaries of government programmes. One such beneficiary, Ms Cedon Kokugonza, testified how free training at the Kyenjojo Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub enabled her to start a salon, employ three workers and pursue poultry farming.

Leaders Commend Government Interventions

Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anitah Among, praised the President for investing in vital infrastructure, health and education. She noted the inclusion of the Kyenjojo–Kyakatwire–Kamwenge road in NDP IV and appealed for the expansion of Kyenjojo General Hospital due to increasing congestion.

District NRM Chairperson Mr Edward Nkonge Rwamwaro credited the President for 40 years of peace, unity and socio-economic progress. He reported that Kyenjojo has received Shs51.6 billion under PDM, benefiting more than 51,000 households, alongside support through Emyooga, improved roads, value-added equipment and expanded access to electricity and safe water. “The wealth creation gospel that President Museveni introduced is working,” he said.

The rally was attended by CEC members, MPs, religious and cultural leaders, and thousands of enthusiastic supporters.
