Uganda and China Deepen Cooperation

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Cooperation), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Uganda, H.E. Zhang Lizhong, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 17th 2025.

Ambassador Zhang extended an invitation for two senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in the Preparatory Meeting of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), scheduled to take place in October 2025. He underscored China’s commitment to strengthening international mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution and expressed his hope for Uganda’s engagement in this important process.

In addition, Ambassador Zhang invited Hon. Oryem Henry Okello to attend the celebrations of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China to be held on the 22nd of September in Kampala.

Hon. Oryem Henry Okello welcomed the Ambassador’s remarks, reaffirmed Uganda’s appreciation of the long-standing ties between the two countries, and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to continued cooperation with China at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.
