Uganda Airlines has started a search for a new chief executive officer.
Uganda National Airlines Company Limited is Uganda’s flagship national passenger and cargo carrier.
“Uganda airlines would like to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO),” reads a notice issued by the airline.
According to the notice, the CEO’s role will be reporting to the Board of Directors, leading and driving the business and success of the airline.
The CEO will also be responsible for devising and executing the airline’s strategy.
Potential applicants must have an honors Bachelor’s degree in any field, post-graduate training in administration, 10 years of aviation experience, etc.
The required skills are leadership and management, innovation, decision making, business acumen, people management and team building, among others.
The notice says candidates outside the aviation industry but who have comparable experience from other sectors and can demonstrate ability to execute the tasks highlighted above are also encouraged to apply.
Waiswa Bageya, the Works Ministry permanent secretary, is quoted by the media saying they have chosen PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to spearhead the search.
“We did not advertise but instead developed a bid document and terms of reference sent to KPMG, Ernst & Young, PwC and another. We zeroed on PwC,” he is quoted as saying by Daily Monitor.
He said the exercise will look at competence both within and outside Uganda and is not necessarily limited to Ugandans.
PwC, in its notice, says the CEO will help the airline create a hub at Entebbe International Airport for interconnecting passengers moving to north-south, east-west across Africa, regional destinations and destinations in Europe, Middle East and Asia.
Uganda Airlines has not had a substantive chief executive officer since it was launched in 2019.
Cornwell Muleya was appointed on contract to serving as the acting chief executive officer.
He was sacked in February this year for corruption and mismanagement of the airlines.
He then rushed to court demanding Shs3.3bn in compensation.
Last week, he was been arrested and charged for disobeying the orders of the Inspectorate of Government.
Following Muleya’s exit, Jenifer Bamuturaki was appointed to also serve in acting capacity as Uganda Airlines CEO.
