Uganda Airlines is set to make a major stride in its international expansion with the introduction of direct flights between Entebbe and London Gatwick, beginning May 18, 2025.
The announcement was made during a cocktail event hosted at the British High Commission Residence in Kampala, organized in honour of the national carrier’s newest route.
Speaking at the event, Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Jenifer Bamuturaki, described the development as a “strategic leap forward” for both the airline and the country.
“We are bridging two nations with deep historical, cultural, and economic ties,” Bamuturaki said. “The Entebbe-London route has long been one of Africa’s most underserved. With this new service, we are unlocking opportunities for trade, tourism, and connection between our peoples.”
The celebratory evening was graced by The Honourable Lord Ray Collins, UK Minister for Africa; Her Excellency Lisa Chesney, British High Commissioner to Uganda; Ugandan ministers; foreign diplomats; business leaders; government agency executives; and other key stakeholders.
Bamuturaki expressed heartfelt appreciation to the British High Commission for its role in supporting the airline through the rigorous regulatory processes. “Your steadfast support has reinforced our confidence and reaffirmed the significance of this milestone,” she said, praising both Her Excellency Lisa Chesney and Lord Collins for their presence and leadership.

With London Gatwick set to become Uganda Airlines’ 17th destination, the CEO revealed that the service will operate four times a week — on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — offering passengers shorter journey times, cost efficiency, and a uniquely Ugandan travel experience.
“Whether for business, leisure, or reconnecting with loved ones, we are proud to offer a service that embodies Ugandan hospitality at 35,000 feet,” Bamuturaki noted.
The market response has been overwhelmingly positive, with advance bookings already stretching into the 2026 summer season — a sign of strong demand and growing trust in the airline’s service.
“Uganda Airlines is more than an airline. It’s a pathway to boundless opportunities,” she concluded. “Together, let’s soar toward a future of shared prosperity and connection.”
