Mengo — The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has moved to clear the air over recent concerns surrounding Buganda’s representation on the map of Uganda, following a visit to Bulange, Mengo in Kampala.
Led by Acting Deputy Executive Director Dr. Vincent Fred Ssenono, the UBOS delegation met with the Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Information, Owek. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, to reaffirm the Bureau’s commitment to accurate national data and to strengthen collaboration with cultural institutions.
The visit came in response to the circulation of a viral map that appeared to omit or misrepresent the Buganda region — a move UBOS has condemned as the work of “saboteurs” seeking to disorganise relations between the Bureau and Buganda.

“Buganda is a constitutionally recognised region that must be respected,” UBOS officials emphasised during the meeting.
They reassured the Kingdom that the official 2024 Uganda Census Final Report, released on December 31, 2024, accurately reflects all regions, including Buganda.

Owek. Kitooke welcomed UBOS’ gesture, praising the Bureau for swiftly addressing the concerns and calling on the people of Buganda to remain calm and trust in the integrity of national institutions.
“UBOS has cleared the discrepancies. Buganda is fully recognized in the National Census report,” he stated.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, UBOS also donated UGX 5 million towards Kabaka’s upcoming 70th Birthday Run, an annual event supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS in Buganda and Uganda at large.
The meeting underscored UBOS’s commitment to working closely with cultural leaders to ensure trust, transparency, and inclusivity in national data collection and dissemination.
