President Museveni, who was meeting with the United Nations Envoy for Sudan, His Excellency Ramtane Lamamra, reiterated his commitment to joining efforts to restore peace in Sudan, emphasizing that the root cause of the conflict lies in promoting identity politics, destabilizing a country as diverse as Sudan.

The President urged the warring factions to agree to a ceasefire and to hand over power to the people of Sudan.

The United Nations Special Envoy to Sudan, His Excellency Lamamra, assured President Museveni of the UN’s full support in resolving the conflict.

U.S. Special Envoy’s visit

During his trip, the Special Envoy will meet with Sudanese civil society leaders and government officials from the host countries, as well as with multilateral leaders.

According to the Office of the Spokesperson, U.S. Department of State, the Special Envoy will emphasize the need for immediate humanitarian access into and within all regions of Sudan, the importance of civilian protection, and the urgency of all efforts to end the war.

He will also emphasize the U.S. government’s continued commitment to supporting a transition to civilian governance that allows the Sudanese people to shape their political future.
